Sauerbraten

I think I mentioned this before but I have a personal interest in video games and game technology in general. Recently, I ran across Sauerbraten, an innovative and strikingly simple 3D game engine developed by a Dutchman called Wouter van Oortmerssen who worked on the hugely successful FPS Far Cry. The Sauerbraten 3D world consists of an octree of deformable cubes. Each cube is made of 8 vertices or points in 3D space. In their maximum size, cubes fill out an entire octree node. One of the coolest aspects of the Sauerbraten engine is the fact that the world can be edited on the fly, or in other words, the engine itself can be used to edit the world at any given time.
